Maxwell Weiss was known for keeping a close eye on his employees - young women, mostly for his own reasons, but wasn't above the occasional man catching his attention. John Noble had been one of the few men in his employ that didn't fit the profile of the standard thirty-something fat and balding men he liked to keep around because they were keen with the books and with clients but also made him look all the better. John's take had been impressive, and gave him the first indication that perhaps a promotion was in order - but Mr. Weiss was also known for promotions coming at a price.
A price that usually required a little bit of leverage to get paid.
When he could, he preferred not to make the push physical. Usually they'd be willing to do anything he asked with the proper application of privileged information and open threats to make that information known to people that they would rather not be told. However, this was a bit of a different case... twenty year old girls were infinitely easier to manipulate than a man who's been with the company long enough to undoubtedly hear rumors of things their CEO has done - and whom he's done them to. Girls were also his primary indulgence; girls, scotch, cigarettes and the occasional illicit substance - but from time to time a younger man with potential to go far in his business caught Max's eye.
The message went out to John that morning, directly from Mr. Weiss' personal assistant: You have a meeting with Mister Weiss tonight at six. Failure to arrive on time will be considered grounds for dismissal - no excuses.
